Sudan Insurance

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to within 40km of South Sudan’s northern border with Sudan.

On 9 July 2011, South Sudan seceded from Sudan. There are political tensions and unresolved issues between the two countries which has resulted in general civil unrest. A product of this discontent has seen kidnapping, piracy and a general threat of terrorism notably targeting foreign workers and foreign interests making specialist and comprehensive insurance essential.

Before considering any travel to South Sudan ,  travel advice  should be carefully considered, All companies and individuals should keep up to date with the latest security situation and register locally with the British Embassy Juba. The capacity of the Embassy to provide consular assistance is limited due to the terrain and security constraints. Make sure you have comprehensive contingency plans including a stock of essential supplies and up-to-date travel documents and visas.

There are a number of risks to be considered when taking out Sudan insurance. Terrorist groups are known to be at large in Sudan and have targeted foreign nationals and interests, including oil and gas companies.

Ambush and kidnapping is a constant threat in areas like Darfur, particularly for those working in a humanitarian capacity. In Khartoum and other urban centres demonstrations, often violent, often anti-western, can suddenly erupt in public places. Off the coast there have also been increasing incidents of piracy.
